Description: The
Newton Democratic Party is seeking ambitious, hard-working college students and
recent grads to join its internship program! By interning with the NDP,
students have an opportunity to work on multiple campaigns and get experience
with local, grassroots Democratic organizing. Interns should expect to work
hard and have fun as they fight to elect Massachusetts Democrats to statewide
office in an important election year. In addition, interns will work to support
events and activities of the NDP and local Democratic elected officials.
NDP’s mission is to promote, support
and elect Democratic candidates to public office. We have an active membership
made up of individuals who are willing and able to make their voices heard on
Democratic policy issues as well as lend a hand during political campaigns. As
an NDP intern, you will have the unique opportunity to join our ranks, work on
a variety of campaigns and learn about a broad scope of policy issues that
influence local, statewide and national politics. Past interns have gone on to
work for ballot and statewide campaigns, the Massachusetts State Legislature
and various state and federal campaigns. The NDP will provide career guidance
and support to all interns who request it. Assistance with expenses associated
with the internship (such as T passes, meals, etc.) is available to those who
need it.
Responsibilities
include:
- Developing and executing voter registration drives, especially at area colleges;
- Organizing canvass and phone banking activities with NDP volunteers;
- Conducting thorough policy and opposition research;
- Creating content for NDP media communications, including press releases, e-mail blasts and social media content;
- Assisting NDP with important fundraising activities, including the development of donor outreach strategies and fundraising events; and
- Attending and staffing various NDP events.Time commitment: September 9, 2014 through December 12, 2014
- This is the period of the MA Democratic Coordinated campaign and a month following to celebrate the work of volunteers.
- Interns are required to commit to at least six hours per week.
- We are extremely flexible when it comes to school and extracurricular schedules!
- A schedule of activities will be planned that works for you and the NDP.
- A weekly activity report must be submitted.
