Our services are structured around the understanding that
great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong
writing skills are fundamental to future success. With this understanding in
mind, we provide drop-in tutoring, field trips, after-school workshops,
in-schools tutoring, help for English language learners, and assistance with
student publications.
All of our free programs seek to strengthen each student's
power to express ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in his or her
individual voice.
Program Coordinator
826 Boston is searching for a candidate who: • Has excellent written, communication, organizational, and computer skills;
• Possesses experience teaching writing and tutoring students ages 6 to 18 in an urban setting;
• Is a capable project manager and manager of personnel;
• Communicates effectively with diverse groups;
• Has a strong academic background across all subjects;
• Speaks Spanish and/or Haitian Creole proficiently, though this is not a requirement; and,
• Believes enthusiastically in the mission of 826 Boston.
Position responsibilities:
• Coordinates after-school tutoring at 826 Boston’s satellite site at Boston Public Library’s branch
• Implements satellite after-school program activities, including daily tutor and homework logs,
• Oversees volunteer tutor involvement and coordinates university partnership at satellite site;
• Coordinates Saturday Tutoring Program at the 826 Boston center;
• Provides support at 826 Boston After-School program, two days per week and as needed;
• Facilitates Storytelling and Bookmaking field trip, one morning per week;
• Supports 826 Boston Summer Theater and Writing Camp;
• Performs additional program and administrative tasks across programs, as needed.
Salary for this full-time position will be commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance, 14 days of vacation, and the option of a 401 K plan.
