Harvard Athletics Recreation Intern

We are looking for a Recreation Intern for FY 15. The Harvard Athletics Recreation Department strives to offer diverse and comprehensive programming and facility options for recreation members.

You will have an opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in the areas of recreation, aquatics, intramural sports, club sports, and facility management. You will assist in organizing recreational programming, managing the recreation facilities and also providing facility oversight on select nights and weekends. Responsibilities also include working at the Murr Center fitness desk, providing support for the club sports and intramural programs, assisting with membership sales and inquiries, distributing mail, updating facility recreation boards, and keeping the recreation website up to date. During the internship, you will work on a large project: you will plan, coordinate, and budget the majority of the Wintersession program recreation events.

You should be highly motivated, detail-oriented and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience working in recreation, intramurals, club sports, aquatics and/or fitness is a plus. Familiarity with Google Calendar and basic web editing preferred but not required.
Schedule:
You will start on August 11, 2014 with an anticipated end date of June 12, 2015. Dates are slightly flexible, but we expect that you will be able to commit to working for 10 months. You will generally work 40 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required, with the opportunity for overtime available. Your schedule may vary to accommodate evening and weekend work.
What we offer: This position pays $10 per hour. Harvard offers variety – we have 65 club sport programs, and 33 intramural programs. We offer unique recreation programming that includes tennis, squash, sailing, rowing, golf and numerous fitness classes. We offer diverse recreation facilities, including an indoor and outdoor track, two pools, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a hockey rink, and squash courts.
The Athletics Department has team spirit and fun activities. We also run an intern professional development program that can help get your career in sports management off to a good start, give you a chance to get career advice from coaches and athletic administrators, and discuss topics such as managing your career. Cambridge is a multi-cultural city with exceptional diversity. And Boston is the undisputed hub of college and university life, so you will have a chance to meet and network with many people in higher education.
Special note:
You MUST be enrolled in a degree-granting program with an accredited college or university that requires an internship as part of the degree process. Please do not send a resume if you cannot meet this requirement.
