Farm seeking On Staff Large Animal Vet tech / Farmer
Large Sustainable Organic Farm in Westchester, NY is seeking a farmer/vet tech knowledgeable in animal husbandry and organic produce farming practices.
Snow Hill Organic Farm is looking for a self- motivated, team oriented person to join our crew. The position requires a dedicated individual with strong skills in team building and labor management.
We are seeking someone who is educated and trained in herd health, reproduction and birthing, record keeping and animal well-being. We have Black Angus Beef, Sheep, Horses, Chickens, Pigs, Dogs and barn cats.
Knowledge of Organic Vegetable and fruit production would be a plus, four season growing and experience in a green house is also desired. Responsibilities include overseeing and implementing daily agricultural activities at the farm, which include operation and maintenance of farm equipment and irrigation systems, managing and working with farm crew, crop planning, planting, maintenance, harvest, and post-harvest processing. Must be creative and efficient, organized and able to balance both production and finance schedules and deadlines. Should have excellent communication skills, a good attitude, and be physically capable of working long days and lifting 40+ lbs. A successful candidate will have experience with medium scale production, and be able to contribute ideas on how to expand and diversify the operation. We sell at local farmers’ markets, engage in direct-marketing to local chefs and restaurants. The Farm is planning expansion to enable year-round production.
Candidates should possess at least a two year degree and have significant work experience. Spanish speaking is a plus. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
