Watershed Science Internships
Opportunities are currently available for watershed science internships with CRWA. CRWA’s internship program offers on-the-job training in a variety of field science and watershed management tasks. Areas of focus may differ depending on intern skills and interest, but may include support for field science projects, the annual Charles River Earth Day Cleanup, volunteer engagement, invasive plant management and removal, data management and analysis, and environmental advocacy.
Internship Details:
· All internships are unpaid, but, in many cases, interns are able to coordinate with their school programs to receive college credit
· Internship schedules are flexible within normal business hours
· The internship program requires a commitment of at least 16 hours per week
· Interns work directly with CRWA staff and volunteers
Potential Skills Gained
· Learning about important water quality and environmental issues
· Volunteer engagement, communications and event planning
· Professional experience working with a small non-profit organization
· Working with various types of water quality data
· Watershed mapping and spatial data display
· Grant and report writing
· Field investigations of water quality issues and rain event runoff monitoring
· Learn more about current CRWA projects
Desired Experience:
· An interest in environmental and water quality issues
· Willingness to learn and ability to work independently
· A major or coursework in civil/environmental engineering, water resources, hydrology, biology, chemistry, environmental science, or a related field
· Access to a car and a valid driver’s license is helpful
· Ability to wade in small streams and work on a small motor boat
· Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
· GIS experience
