USDA Veterinary Technologist (Animal Facilities & Lab Supervisor) – Mount Ida College

The Veterinary Technology Program at Mount Ida College seeks candidates for the full-time, academic year position (10 months) of USDA Veterinary Technologist/Animal Facilities & Lab Supervisor. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Hiring, training, and supervising student workers and staff in the College animal facilities.
  • Meeting with student animal facility managers and staff and performing at least weekly unannounced spot checks of the animal facility and laboratories in the Center for Veterinary Technology.
  • Maintaining animal facility and labs in accordance with USDA requirements.
  • Responding immediately to unannounced visits by a USDA inspector.
  • Requesting and monitoring general maintenance and repair needs for the animal facilities.
  • Performing weekly random examinations of animal records to check for violations of IACUC protocol limitations. Reporting any such violations to the IACUC Chair within seven days of discovery.
  • Supervising student workers and staff in the maintenance of animal records including medical records, daily observation and routine husbandry logs, treatment sheets, and adoption records.
Qualifications include an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology; Certified Veterinary Technician; three or more years’ experience as a veterinary technician with at least one year in a small animal clinic. Position begins on August 25, 2014.
