Summary of Position
Reporting to the Director/Assistant Vice President of Undergraduate Admission, this entry-level position works as part of an admissions team responsible for the recruitment and admission of undergraduate students that will maximize the quantity and quality of students enrolled at Suffolk University. The Counselor will be involved in a range of on and off campus recruitment activities including school visits, college fairs, counselor meetings and applicant interviews as well as the review and evaluation of applications from first-year students.

Primary/Principal Responsibilities:
Assists Associate/Assistant Directors by coordinating and implementing applicant yield activities such as Information Sessions, Suffolk Showcase, etc. Assists Associate/Assistant Directors in coordinating admission activities for newly accepted students such as the admission office involvement in advising, retention, orientation and registration activities.

Reads and evaluates approximately 800 applications for admission using a digitally-based application system. Applications must be reviewed accurately and in a timely fashion. In accordance with University parameters, s/he exercises individual judgment in making admission decisions and in ranking for honors or special financial aid merit programs. Questionable cases are referred to a senior admissions staff member.

This position also recruits and reviews portfolios for the Bachelor of Fine Arts Programs (BFA) in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration and Interior Design at the New England School of Art & Design at Suffolk University (NESADSU).

Attend 10-12 Art Portfolio Days recruitment events and organize and host 10-12 NESADSU information sessions per year.

Assist Director and others in understanding the needs and interests of students and the impact of policy changes on their successful enrollment, especially for applicants to the New England School of Art and Design at Suffolk University (NESADSU). Make Marketing and Communications recommendations that will provide enhanced visibility for students interested in the Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration, and Interior Design Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) programs.
Assist with advising, orientation, and registration as required.

Other project and liaison work will be assigned as needed.

Requirements/Qualifications:

• Demonstrated understanding of, or experience with, the visual arts.
• Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in a visual arts discipline strongly preferred. Applicants with an academic minor in a visual arts discipline will also be considered.
• Requires travel as well as evening and weekend work.
• Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely.
• Strong time management and ability to meet strict, frequent deadlines.
• Strong computer proficiency including a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and expertise in using social media to attract and recruit applicants.
• Experience with reading and evaluating application materials using a digital based application system, preferred.
• Strong verbal communication skills - ability to speak publicly in front of small and large audiences.
• Ability to engage and network with prospective applicants, parents and school counselors.
• Ability to represent Suffolk University professionally, express the value of attending Suffolk and to ‘sell’ a vision.
• Ability and comfort with inter and intra-continental travel.
• Ability to work a rigorous schedule and flexible hours.
• Valid drivers’ license.
• Access to a personal vehicle.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team on group projects.
