Fall State House Internship (Republican Leader's Office)

The Republican Leader’s Office in the Massachusetts State House is looking for individuals interested in state politics and government, who are pursuing a political science or related degree, and are interested in applying for a volunteer internship in our office. We have a handful of interns each semester that have the chance to be involved with legislative issues. All legislative interns participate in tours, receive the opportunity to attend legislative hearings, attend formal sessions of the House, and are kept informed of current legislative activities.

Interns will assist our office with a variety of tasks and projects, including legislative and budget research, constituent correspondence, special projects, and general office duties. They will also be able to sit in on House sessions. If the intern has an interest in a particular issue area, we will work with him or her to create a longer-term research project. We try to ensure that our interns are exposed to a wide range of projects, people, and issues.

Party preference is, of course, not a prerequisite for an internship; however, the position would most likely be of more interest to students whose political preferences align more with the Republican Party. Interested applicants should have a positive attitude and a willingness to take on any task as part of our team approach. We are looking for individuals who can express themselves clearly, both verbally and in writing. In addition, we ask that our interns be available at least 2 days a week (8-12 hours) to adequately gain the beneficial experience our office has to offer.

Location of internship: Massachusetts State House, 24 Beacon St, Boston, MA 01233- Accessible via public transportation
