Protective Services Worker

SUMMARY

Reporting to a Protective Services Supervisor, the Protective Service Worker provides intervention for elderly clients facing abuse, neglect by a caretaker, financial exploitation or self-neglect. Additionally, the Protective Service Worker provides education to the community on relevant protective service issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

• Receive and investigate reports of abuse, neglect or financial exploitation in a timely manner as defined under the regulations governing the protective services program.
• Provide case work services to protective service client population, including but not limited to:
o assessment
o planning, goal setting, and arranging for appropriate services
o community coordination
o arranging for geriatric evaluation when necessary
o determining the need to petition for a protective order, guardianship and/or conservator through the courts
o advocacy
• In consultation with Protective Services Supervisor, refer situations involving serious abuse to the appropriate District Attorney.
• Maintain system for delivery of protective services: work closely with professionals from other community agencies and organizations including first responders, community safety personnel and medical professionals to identify needs, locate resources, and set up service network to meet needs.
• Maintain case records; collect information for program monitoring and evaluation.
• Assume 24-hours on-call responsibility as determined by Protective Services Supervisor

QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WILL HAVE

• Masters Degree in Social Work or related field and 1 year of crisis intervention experience
           or
• Bachelors Degree and 2 years’ crisis intervention experience.
• Must have experience in crisis intervention
• Knowledge of the dynamics of abuse
• Experience in working with isolated, frail elders
• Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues relating to the aging process
• Knowledge of the mental health system, community resources, Medicaid and Medicare system.
• Experience with State Home Care a plus.
• A car is required, as well as a valid driver's license.

Degree Requirements Bachelors in Social Work, Masters preferred
