Needham family seeks a reliable, cheerful person on a part time (5-15 hours a week, depending on experience), flexible basis, to help coordinate medical care and provide companionship for a vibrant 72-year old-"young" woman who suffers complications from viral encephalitis that require her to live in Assisted Living. With a flexible schedule, the employee would have duties such as making doctor appointments, maintaining documents that track medical results, accompanying client to doctor appointments (and other errands such as haircuts, groceries, clothes shopping) and helping communicate information to the doctor that the client may have forgotten to mention or has a hard time communicating due to minor word-finding difficulty. This work would complement involvement from family members also involved in client’s care. Other duties include sharing medical results with family, helping organize possessions, helping respond to emails or send birthday cards and just generally being a positive, upbeat companion for a depressed (but fun!) lady who got sick at too early of an age.

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficient with Microsoft Word and familiarity with Google Docs or other application to share documents / calendar with family. Reliability. Must have own car and be willing to transport client in car. Medical background is not required, although the family thought a nursing student with an interest in brain injuries or geriatric care might be interested in the position.

Salary $15+ per hour, depending on experience
