Veterinary Technician-Neurology Department

VCA South Shore Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our well established Neurology Department.

Day to day responsibilities include: assisting with new consultations, recheck appointments, and emergency neurology cases that are referred from other departments; coordinating patient MRI and surgical scheduling; client communication, providing updates on hospitalized patients, and follow up calls; administration and monitoring of anesthesia for MRI and neurosurgical cases; daily management of hospitalized cases; discharge of neurology patients to their owners; communication with referring veterinarians; and participating in on-call coverage for neurology cases that require emergency services.

Essential skills include: proficiency in venipuncture; IV catheter placement; drug calculations; induction and monitoring of extended anesthetic procedures (including the use of mechanical ventilators); advanced nursing care of critical patients; and client education.

Candidates for this position must be organized, flexible, a team player and enjoy a relatively high level of interaction with clients so we inspire confidence that we will provide the best care and service possible. We manage high caseloads in a fast-paced environment so it is also important that the candidate be able to work efficiently in times of stress.

Our technician teams play an integral role in collaborating and providing support to both the practicing veterinarians and the clients as we work to provide exceptional specialty and advanced care to patients in need of our services. Additionally, we rely on our support teams to provide excellent communication with our referring veterinarians so that they are confident in our ability to provide such care to their clients and patients when necessary.
