Veterinary Technician/Shelter Manager

The MetroWest Humane Society has a full-time Shelter Manager position available. We are seeking a certified veterinary technician to manage the medical care of our cats as well as the daily operations of our shelter.

Shelter manager position for a non-profit, no-kill, cat shelter in Ashland, MA. Our Facility houses up to 90 cats with cage and community style housing, plus area dedicated for our semi-feral and permanent resident cats.

Responsibilities include management of shelter operations, supervision and training of staff, interaction with volunteers and the public. Position is responsible for ensuring the safety and sanitation of the facility, monitoring the on-going health and behavior of the resident cats, coordinate and oversee all veterinary care and treatments, working with multiple veterinarians. Managing intake of cats based on space, adoption flow, TNR projects. Maintaining and updating medical records and general office administration.

Certified veterinary technician experience required. Prior experience as a Shelter Manager or similar role in a non-profit or animal welfare organization is preferred.

Preferred skills and experience:
Must be passionate about the welfare and care of cats and have extensive experience handling and working with cats. Must be compassionate and have a strong understanding of feline behavior. Ability to triage health and medical issues, calculate dosing, and administer medications and vaccinations. Must possess familiarity of common feline illnesses, diseases and treatments; understanding of recommended vaccine schedules/protocols. Must be self-motivated and take initiative; possess strong organizational, leadership, communication, and computer skills; detail oriented; effective at multi-tasking and prioritizing. Demonstrated experience in dealing with people in a professional manner, including the ability to handle difficult and often emotionally charged situations.
