Match Education needs a Chicago Urban Education Fellowship!

Match Corps: Chicago 2014-15 Urban Education Fellowship

Are you interested in education reform?

Consider joining Match Corps: Chicago, a full-time, in-school, professional tutoring fellowship overseen by Match Education. We are seeking smart, idealistic, relentless people for the 2014-2015 school year. Each Fellow works with two students at a time for each period of the school day, and will have a personal caseload of 12-13 students for the entire school year. Fellows drive student achievement by providing individualized instruction, and by building personal and meaningful relationships with students and their families.

Why?

Match Education has been using this high-dosage tutoring model for nine years in Massachusetts with tremendous success. Now Match is shipping off from the east coast to work with underperforming schools in Chicago as part of a scientific study with the University of Chicago. This gold standard 2x2 experiment will investigate whether high dosage tutoring can reduce violent behavior in young men and drive academic performance. This experiment has never been done before and is a one-of a kind opportunity.

• Match Corps Chicago is open to any adult who is willing to commit to this 10.5 month fellowship position. Ideal candidates include recent college graduates, mid-career individuals, and retirees.
• Applicants must have a bachelor's degree, and although Fellows must have strong high school-level math skills, we accept applicants from all majors and backgrounds.
• In considering applications, we primarily look for a strong academic record, coaching or tutoring experience, and a readiness to rise to the many demands and challenges that develop from working with at-risk youth. We need idealistic and driven people who are hungry for consistent feedback, and who will commit to working tirelessly to erase, not narrow, the achievement gap.

Benefits

This is a unique service based opportunity where you will be playing a role in a break through scientific study and will be making a significant difference in the lives of students. In addition, Match Corps: Chicago fellows are employees of the University of Chicago and will receive a modest living stipend of $16,000 and $1,00 travel award paid out over 11 months from the University and are eligible for a variety of benefits, including health insurance.
