Medical Data Entry Clerk

The Medical Data Entry Clerk will process surgical and cytological specimens. This requires data entry to input, record, verify, and edit various patient and laboratory information. This position receives sorts and provides accurate data entry for all specimens entering the laboratory. Accurately assigning numbers generated for each specimen to cassettes. Follow the direction of the supervisor while taking initiative in performing and promoting quality and efficiency within the department.

Job Responsibilities:

• Properly identifies and accessions all lab specimens.
• Accurately enters patient information into LIS.
• Ability to read the clients request and enter them into LIS.
• Assists as needed to perform other related duties and special projects as required.
• Accepts other duties as assigned.
• Operates a centrifuge in order to properly prepare specimen.
• Labels the specimen with proper patient demographic information and delivers promptly to the testing labs.
• Receives and empties incoming bags, boxes, and containers of specimens from dock area.
• Separates and sorts specimens by category.

Requirements:

• High School degree or equivalent required.
• One to two years previous laboratory and data entry experience.
• Ability to type 45 wpm.
• Ability to decipher various forms of handwriting.
• Ability to enter alpha and numeric information into the laboratory information system with required speed and accuracy as determined by the laboratory support supervisor.
• Ability to pull and print report information from the laboratory information system.
• Ability to work with Client Services to resolve patient and client issues.
• Excellent skills in English usage, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
• Demonstrated skills and high level of attention to detail in technical data interpretation and ability to troubleshoot.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and general working knowledge of Internet for business use.
• Willingness to work shift work and overtime is required.

Full-Time - $12 per hour.
