The Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts (AICUM) represents 60 private colleges and universities in Massachusetts ranging from small, specialized 2- and 4-year colleges to traditional liberal arts colleges to national research universities.
The objectives of the 60-member association are: To preserve and strengthen higher education in the Commonwealth; To address state and federal legislative and regulatory issues affecting higher education. To advocate for greater state and Federal financial aid support; To make students and families aware of Massachusetts higher education opportunities and of specific colleges and universities within the Commonwealth.To bring about greater understanding of the impact and contributions of independent colleges and universities on the Massachusetts economy and culture

Projects/Responsibilities: AICUM is seeking a committed and responsible student to serve as an intern in its Boston office for the Fall of 2014. The primary focus of the internship is to assist in the planning, organization and execution of AICUM’s 10th Annual Dinner attended by approximately 400. The intern will support the Director of Member Relations and the Office Manager in all duties that correspond with preparing for the Dinner. This includes, but is not limited to maintaining the donor database, preparing information packets, managing general clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, faxing, mailings, online research, writing solicitation letters, execution of the event and other Dinner related responsibilities.

Preferred Skills/Experience:The candidate must be detail-oriented, professional, mature and reliable. In addition to an interest in higher education and event planning, the candidate must be able to work well with colleagues in a small and energetic office setting. Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word and Excel is required.

The candidate must currently be enrolled in an AICUM Member college or university. While the intern’s schedule can be fairly flexible depending on his or her academic schedule, the intern MUST be available for the entire duration of the day of Monday, December 8, 2014 including the evening to assist at the Dinner.

Start Date:
The intern will begin in the Fall 2014. Approximately 10-15 hours per week depending on the academic schedule of the intern. This is a paid internship ($11 per hour).
