Summer Interior Design Internship-Boston, MA

Duncan Hughes Interiors, is currently looking for an intern for this Summer. They are looking for third and incoming fourth year students. Interior designer/decorator with small office in Boston seeking detail oriented, highly organized intern to assist with interior decoration and design projects.


INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Work with designers and clients to develop designs and plans for client projects including space plans, furnishings, fabric, accessories, and color schemes, wallcoverings, lighting fixtures, kitchen and bath materials, flooring and carpet, millwork design
-Assist in production of design layouts, sketches, elevations and AutoCAD drawings as required.
-Communicate with vendors and manufacturers to place and track orders, monitor shipping, and manage local delivery schedules
-Hands-on work with design team during final client project installations
-Conduct site visits to document existing conditions and furnishings, take measurements, and photos
-Communicate with contractors and vendors to obtain quotes, discuss project specifications, project schedules and delivery dates
-Obtain fabric samples, carpet and paint samples, and furniture tearsheets from sources such as the Boston Design Center and other local resources
-Create presentation boards, master color plan boards, and similar presentations
-Administrative duties would include: answering phones, taking messages, filing, organizing small materials and samples library, running business and project related errands in Boston area
-As part of a team, review designs and plans with clients
-Document project information such as paint schedules, delivery schedules, furniture plans & fabric selections
-Some involvement in creating client quotes, invoices, and vendor purchase orders
-Duties related to social media marketing presence of firm

 Ideal candidate will be highly detail oriented, and have a true passion for all aspects of interior decoration and design, and be willing to pitch in at all levels of a project. Must have demonstrated outstanding organizational, managerial, communication, and problem solving skills.

Intern will be involved in all stages of interior decoration and design projects from the conceptual stage -presentation boards, space planning, surface and finish selections, furniture, textile and accessory selections, - through final installation of project.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: (1) AutoCAD, SketchUp, Microsoft Office, hand rendering (2) Knowledge of furniture, fabrics, and finishes is preferred, along with the knowledge of fine detailing in upholstery/soft goods, furniture, accessories, and space planning. (3) Understanding of design concepts, use of color, and texture; (4) Ability to read and understand construction drawings. (5) Demonstrated writing skills.

Note:
College credits and a performance based stipend is provided upon the completion of the internship.
A car is a requirement as they travel to job sites weekly.
